From “where do I start?” to a clear next step. A short introduction to the practice, the feedback and the plan.

Your time. Your plan. Your next step.

Three steps, a few minutes a day

  1. You send a voice note

Hold to talk and say something in Dutch. A few seconds is enough.

  2. Bram answers in Dutch

With his voice and in writing. Open the translation whenever you need it.

  3. You say it better

Bram shows a better way to say it, and you try again, out loud.

Practise the conversations you will really have

Bram’s lessons are set in everyday situations. He starts the conversation in Dutch, and you answer with a voice note.

  • At the doctor’s

Goedemorgen. Wat kan ik voor je doen?

  • Meeting a neighbour

Hoi! Woon jij hier sinds kort? Welkom in de straat!

  • At the town hall

    Goedemiddag. Heeft u een afspraak?

  • A job interview

    Vertel eens iets over jezelf.

  • At your child’s school

Hoe vindt uw kind het op school?

  • Small talk at work

Wat heb je dit weekend gedaan?

  • Getting around

Waar wil je naartoe? Neem je de trein of de bus?

  • Talking about the Netherlands

Wat vind jij belangrijk in Nederland?

Why speaking practice with an AI tutor works

Speaking gets easier by speaking, often. That is hard to arrange with people every day, so Bram makes it easy to start.

Your own sentences, improved

You learn from what you actually said: a better way to say it in Dutch, with a translation in your language.

Any hour, any day

Practise at seven in the morning or late at night, for two minutes or twenty. No appointment, and no class to travel to.

Nobody to feel shy in front of

Make mistakes, say the same sentence five times, ask him to say it more simply. Bram is patient every time.

Translation when you ask

Every note has a translation in English, Persian, Turkish or Arabic. It is machine-made and stays closed until you open it, so you try the Dutch first.

A short check at the end

At the end of a lesson Bram asks three open questions, one at a time, and you answer in your own words. It is practice marked by an AI, not an exam result.

From your first words to B2

Bram’s conversation lessons follow the course, level by level. Start at the beginning, and jump ahead whenever a lesson feels too easy.

  1. A0Your first Dutch: saying hello, who you are, your day and shopping.
  2. A1Everyday life: your home and street, getting around, health, appointments and talking about yesterday.
  3. A2Work, housing, school, official letters and free time, with lessons built on the A2 speaking exam.
  4. B1Opinions, stories, solving problems and Dutch society, with practice for the B1 speaking exam.
  5. B2Work, discussions and the news. This is conversation practice only: it makes no claims about the B2 exam.

What Bram is, and is not

Bram is a fictional guide from Amsterdam, voiced and written by AI. He is not a human teacher and he can be wrong, so treat what he says as practice. He reads your words, not your accent, and he cannot predict your result or replace the people who assess the real exam. He is part of full access.

Questions about Bram

Is Bram a real person?

No. Bram is an AI character, a fictional 35-year-old from Amsterdam. His replies are generated by AI, and he never claims to be human. He is a practice partner you can use at any hour, not a teacher.

Why speak to an AI at all?

Because speaking is a habit, and it is hard to find someone to practise with every day. Bram is there at any hour, he is patient, and you can try the same sentence again and again. It is practice, not a replacement for people or for the exam.

Does Bram prepare me for the A2 speaking exam?

Some lessons are built on the A2 speaking exam. The real exam assesses six things in your spoken answers, including fluency and pronunciation. Bram works from the words you said, not how you sounded, so use DUO’s free practice exams too.

Do I need to understand Dutch to use Bram?

No. You can start from your first words. Bram answers in short Dutch notes, and each one has a translation you open when you want it. If you do not understand, ask him to say it more simply.

Is talking to Bram free?

Bram is part of full access, a subscription that starts with a free trial. The trial needs a card to start. The free account, with no card, includes the first lessons, so you can see the course first.
