A1 Basisexamen
Taken at the Dutch embassy abroad.
Reading and speaking, basic level.
“Hallo, hoe heet je?”
A daily coach for the Dutch civic-integration exam — reading, listening, writing, speaking, plus KNM and ONA. Hand-written by people who took it. Adapts to your mistakes, not your streak.
AI grades your writing, schedules your review, and adapts to your weak spots. It does not invent the curriculum, and it does not judge your accent. Lessons are hand-written. The pace is yours.
A short check across reading, listening, and a few KNM facts. We map you to A1, A2, or B1 and shape a plan around your exam date.
Vocabulary first, then a passage, recording, or short writing. Audio on every word. One thing on the screen at a time.
Writing comes back with mistakes coloured by type and a suggested version next to yours. Disagree in one tap — it routes to a real reviewer.
The same spaced-repetition science behind Anki, hidden inside lessons. You never schedule a card. You just keep what you learn.
Listen, shadow, record, and play yourself next to a native voice. AI helps you spot what to repeat, never grades how you sound.
Miss a word and it returns sooner. Struggle with perfectum and your next writing prompt targets it. The plan keeps fitting you.
Three language levels and two civics modules — every track the inburgeringsexamen tests. We teach all of them, in the order that fits your starting level and your exam date.

See your current levelMost adults take this exam once and never again. The path is unfamiliar, the language is new, and the rules keep changing. inburgerencoach is a small team that took the exam, then built the coach we wished we'd had. We don't have user testimonials yet — we're new. What we can show you is the method, and every claim below is something you can verify the day you sign up.
“We took this exam, lost weekends to bad practice books, and passed anyway. inburgerencoach is the coach we wanted at the start — built honest, built small, built for the next adult who has to do this.”

Reading, listening, writing, speaking — A1 Basisexamen, A2 inburgeringsexamen, and B1 Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I. Plus KNM and ONA. Nothing in the curriculum exists without a corresponding task on the official exam.
Miss a word and it returns sooner. Struggle with perfectum and tomorrow's writing prompt targets it. No manual scheduling — the plan adapts after every interaction.
Mocks are built to match the DUO exam structure — same parts, same clock, same answer-sheet rhythm. You walk into exam day with the format already familiar.
Every vocabulary card, every example sentence, every reading passage — recorded or rendered in native Dutch. Listening is built into practice, not parked in a separate module.
Your exam result depends on your hours, your starting level, and DUO. We give you a structured plan and honest signal on where you stand — never a number we cannot back.
Every AI verdict has a "sounds wrong to you?" button. Flag it and a real reviewer on our team looks at it. The AI is a tool, not the judge.

The inburgeringsexamen is the Dutch civic-integration exam, run by DUO. For most non-EU residents in the Netherlands, passing it is a step toward a stronger residence permit and toward Dutch citizenship. It covers reading, listening, writing, and speaking in Dutch, plus civics — KNM (Knowledge of Dutch Society) and, on the older 2013 law, ONA (Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market).
Adults preparing for any part of the inburgering pathway — the A1 Basisexamen abroad, the A2 inburgeringsexamen on the 2013 law, or the B1 Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I on the 2021 law. Most of our learners are working full time, often parents, often studying on a phone in 10-minute bursts. The lessons are written for tired adults, not for children.
We cover the full pathway: A1 reading and speaking for the Basisexamen abroad, the four A2 language skills of the 2013-law inburgeringsexamen, the four B1 language skills of Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I, KNM (Dutch society), and ONA (the labour-market module on the 2013 law). One subscription gives you everything — no upgrades, no locked tracks.
Most learners need three to six months at twenty minutes a day, depending on your starting level, your route (A2 or B1), and your exam date. The legal deadline under the 2021 law is three years from the start of your inburgeringsplicht, with extensions possible. We set a daily pace that fits the time you have.
Yes. The curriculum maps to the official inburgering exam tasks: the A1 Basisexamen abroad, the A2 inburgeringsexamen, the B1 Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I, plus KNM and ONA. We use exam-style items, written in Dutch and explained in your language, with mock exams that follow the real exam's timing and format so practice feels like the real thing.
Both are good at what they do — but neither is built for this exam. Duolingo teaches general Dutch: bakery scenes, owl streaks, the wrong vocabulary for inburgering. Three months in you can order coffee, and still cannot read a letter from your gemeente. Anki has the best review engine ever built, and the steepest interface most adults will ever face — community decks look like a server console, and most people stop opening it within a week. We took the parts that work and left the parts that hurt: same spaced-repetition science as Anki, built into hand-written lessons; native-Dutch audio on every card and example; decks written for what the exam actually asks (the doctor, the gemeente, the workplace, KNM and ONA). And we adapt — your wrong answers shape tomorrow's lesson. No streak shame, no leagues, no mascot. A coach for one specific exam, written for adults.
Inburgerenonline is a serious tool and many learners pass with it. The difference is the shape of the help. It is built around static practice — exercises with fixed answer keys. You do the work, check the answer, move on. The system never reads what you wrote and never adjusts to you. We built the opposite: your writing comes back with each error coloured by type, the grammar rule named, and a native-quality version next to yours — and you can disagree with the AI in one tap. Flashcards use spaced repetition with native-Dutch audio. Speaking starts on day one, AI-free — listen, repeat, compare. And we sharpen as you study: wrong on perfectum yesterday means tomorrow's writing prompt targets it. Inburgerenonline is a library you study from. inburgerencoach is a coach that studies you back.
Yes for writing: you get colour-coded inline feedback, a suggested version of your text, and a score. Speaking starts AI-free — you listen, repeat, and compare with a native model — and AI feedback is added once we trust it. Every AI verdict has a one-tap "sounds wrong to you?" button so you can flag it.
No, and we never will. The exam result depends on your study time, your starting level, and decisions made by DUO and the IND. We give you a structured plan, real exam-style practice, and honest feedback on where you stand — not a promise. inburgerencoach is not affiliated with DUO, the IND, or any Dutch government body.
Yes — a 7-day free trial of the full product, with no card asked at sign-up. You get every track, every module, AI-graded writing with inline feedback, mock exams, and the adaptive plan that shapes itself around your mistakes. After the trial, it is €29 a month, or €119 once for a full six-month preparation window before your exam. Cancel any time in two clicks; you keep access until the period you paid for ends.
You can cancel any time from your account settings, in two clicks. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Beyond the trial, fees are non-refundable except where Dutch consumer law requires otherwise. Write to us if your situation is unusual.
We reserve a limited number of free seats and discount vouchers each month, for asylum-status holders, refugees, jobseekers via UWV or the gemeente, and people on minimum income. Apply through our contact form with one or two sentences about your situation. We read every application and reply within a week. We cannot help everyone, but we read everyone.
The interface is available in English, Dutch, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian, with right-to-left support for Arabic and Persian. Lessons run in any modern browser on phone, tablet, or laptop. No app store, no install — open the website and continue where you left off.

No. inburgerencoach is built for adults preparing for the inburgeringsexamen. There is no mascot, no league, no per-answer celebration. If you are looking for an app for your kids, we recommend voiczy.com — it is well designed for children and built to support their wider education. Full disclosure: it is a sister project from the same team.
