Questions about KNM and ONA.

    What is KNM?

    KNM stands for Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij — Knowledge of Dutch Society. It's one of the modules of the inburgeringsexamen (2013 law). Forty multiple-choice questions on a computer, covering eight everyday topics.

    How are KNM and ONA different?

    KNM is a multiple-choice exam on Dutch life. ONA is a portfolio about your work plans — eight steps, submitted to DUO and discussed with an examiner. Both are part of the same overall inburgering pathway.

    What does the exam look like?

    KNM: forty questions, computer-based, at one of DUO's exam centres. ONA: a written portfolio plus a 30-45 minute interview about it.

    Can I get an exemption?

    Some learners are exempt based on prior Dutch diplomas or assessments. We don't decide — DUO does. We can prepare you for the exam if you need it.

    Are the explanations in my language?

    Yes — every KNM and ONA explanation is translated into the seven first languages we support.

    Do the practice questions match the real exam?

    Format, topic scope, and difficulty are aligned with DUO's published exam scope. We do not republish official exam questions — those are confidential.
